Famous Quotations about Candy

My dad was what you might call "a man of few words." He didn't believe in waste, and words were one of the things that he was most conservative of, so he used a quote by a famous person rather than give me a long lecture when I had strayed from the straight and narrow. Then he'd send me to look up the quote and figure out what it meant. Maybe that's why I love quotes so much — they helped to raise me.

Some of my favorite quotes are about candy. It's just natural, I guess, that since I love both candy and quotations, I mix them together. Here are some of the ones that I like the most:

First is an anonymous quote that says, "Anyone who uses the phrase 'easy as taking candy from a baby' has never tried taking candy from a baby." I'd have to agree.

John Belushi, an Emmy Award-winning American comedian and actor, made me laugh — a lot. I loved it when he said, "I owe it all to little chocolate donuts."

Sandra Boynton, a popular American humorist, songwriter, children's author, and illustrator, made me laugh out loud when she explained the correct season to eat chocolate: "As with most fine things," she said, "chocolate has its season. There is a simple memory aid that you can use to determine whether it is the correct time to order chocolate dishes: any month whose name contains the letter A, E, or U is the proper time for chocolate." That works for me! Another thing that Ms. Boynton said about chocolate was, "Research tells us 14 out of any 10 individuals likes chocolate." That sounds like good, solid research data to me.

My favorite quotation about chocolate, though, was made by Mel Gibson, who was discussing what women want. He said, "After about 20 years of marriage, I'm finally starting to scratch the surface of that one. And I think the answer lies somewhere between conversation and chocolate."
